South Africa as a Tourist Destination

Tourist Destination

South Africa is a massive, diverse and incredibly beautiful country. It is the size of France and Spain combined and varies dramatically from the lush forests and spectacular coast of the Garden Route to the barren almost desert-like Karoo to the ruggedly wild west coast to the wide open expanses of the Kruger National Park.

The country’s peaceful transition from the dark apartheid days to a free democracy in 1994 is regarded as a miracle in world history. In 2004 the country’s third democratic election took place and Mr Thabo Mbeki was inaugurated for his second term as President, succeeding President Nelson Mandela.  In 2009 President Zuma took over and won re-election in 2014.

It is a melting pot of cultures; a world within one country; the Rainbow Nation. Owing to the many different cultural backgrounds of the various people in the country, there is no uniform South Africa culture. In music, art, literature, drama and architecture you will find marked differences in the expressions of the different cultures, making this a uniquely fascinating country to visit.

Boasting a well developed infrastructure with world class roads and airports, South Africa’s main centres are all well linked and easily accessible. We drive on the left hand side of the road; and we have robots, not traffic-lights!

Our climate makes South Africa a year-round destination for sport and recreation. We have hosted the 1995 Rugby World Cup, the 2003 Cricket World Cup – and the biggest of all, the 2010 Fifa World Cup. Add to this the country’s abundant flora and fauna; world-class medical healthcare facilities; the variety of scenic attractions; the game parks and nature reserves; the pristine unspoilt beaches; accommodation ranging from luxury hotels and safari camps to modest inns and backpackers lodges, and you have a country waiting to be explored!

It is said that once you visit Africa and it gets in your blood, you will want to return again – there is a magnetism here which attracts visitors from around the world. We hope that every group will have an unforgettable experience and that they will learn so much about this diverse, multi-faceted country.
